We’ve seen firsthand how much better projects turn out when we start with the right materials. A 25-Year Partnership with Sherwin-Williams
(and Why It Matters to You)

While our Washington team just recently made the switch to using Sherwin-Williams exclusively, it’s also a continuation of a trusted partnership that’s been going strong for over 25 years. At our original Illinois location, Paint-Right Painting has relied on Sherwin-Williams products for everything from full-home repaints to detailed trim and cabinet work, and that experience continues to guide the work we do today.

That kind of lasting relationship doesn’t just happen—it’s earned through years of dependable performance, project after project. We’ve used their paints on everything from historic homes to brand-new builds; through humid summers and harsh winters; and across just about every surface you can imagine. No matter the challenge, Sherwin-Williams products have consistently delivered beautiful results that make our clients happy and keep us proud of our work.

When it came time to reassess the best tools for delivering consistent, long-lasting results in the evergreen state, Sherwin-Williams stood out as the clear choice. We know firsthand how well their products hold up across a wide range of surfaces and climates. Bringing that same level of quality and reliability to our Washington projects just made sense, especially in a region where paint has to work overtime against moisture, moss, and UV exposure.

Whether you’re repainting a waterfront cottage or updating your interior with something bold and new, you’ll benefit from our quarter-century of Sherwin-Williams-backed experience—right here in the Pacific Northwest.

Why Sherwin-Williams? A Look at the Benefits

We didn’t choose Sherwin-Williams for brand loyalty or even because they’re a household name. We chose them because their products outperform the competition in all the ways that matter—coverage, longevity, and a flawless finish that actually lasts.

Here’s why we trust Sherwin-Williams for every painting project:

1. Durability You Can Count On

Paint in the Pacific Northwest has to hold up against a lot—rain, coastal humidity, sun exposure, and even salty air near the water. Sherwin-Williams has exterior paints specially engineered to last in these exact conditions, with formulas that resist peeling, fading, and mildew. Whether it’s sun-exposed siding in Gig Harbor or a damp backyard fence on the Key Peninsula, we want that finish to stay strong year after year.

2. Excellent Coverage and Application

There’s a big difference between paint that looks good at first and one that truly goes on smoothly, evenly, and with fewer coats. Sherwin-Williams makes that difference obvious. The better the paint, the better it covers, which also translates to a more consistent look, better protection, and less touch-up work later on.

3. Color That Lasts (and Looks Great in PNW Light)

Natural light in this region can shift dramatically from season to season and even hour to hour. We’ve found that Sherwin-Williams paints have rich pigments that stay true, whether you're dealing with the soft grays of a cloudy Port Orchard afternoon or the bright summer sun in Tacoma. Their fade resistance is especially important for bold accent colors like navy blue, charcoal, or forest green.

4. Low VOC, Health-Conscious Options

For interior projects, especially in homes with kids or pets, we often recommend Sherwin-Williams’ low-VOC or zero-VOC products. These paints offer excellent performance without that strong lingering odor, making your home more livable immediately after a fresh coat goes on.

5. Support and Product Knowledge

Behind the brand is a network of knowledgeable local reps and well-stocked stores (like the one right in Gig Harbor). If we ever need to troubleshoot a product, color match an older finish, or get advice for a unique surface, we’ve got real support—not just a customer service line.

Find Your Perfect Color with Sherwin-Williams’ Visualizer Tool

Choosing a new paint color can be surprisingly overwhelming. It’s one thing to like a color in the store and another to know how it’ll actually look on your home, surrounded by your own light, landscaping, and finishes. That’s where Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap Visualizer Tool really shines.

This free online tool lets you upload photos of your actual home—interior or exterior—and preview how different colors will look on your walls, siding, trim, and more. It’s a quick, low-stakes way to explore bold new color ideas or test subtle shifts in tone, all without lifting a brush.

Want to see how a deep navy looks with your garden’s spring bloom? Curious how a warm white pairs with your stone pathway and cedar fencing? The visualizer helps you find combinations that work with your home’s natural light, landscaping, and features.

Of course, nothing beats seeing paint in real life. Once you’ve narrowed it down, we always recommend sampling your favorites on the surface itself to see how they behave in different lighting throughout the day. However, using the Visualizer first can save you a lot of time (and second guesses).

Paint Finish Matters Too—
Here’s What We Recommend

Choosing the right paint color is important, but picking the right finish is just as crucial. The finish (or sheen) of your paint affects how the color looks in different lighting, how well it stands up to wear and tear, and even how easy it is to clean.

Here’s a breakdown of common Sherwin-Williams finishes and when we recommend each one:

Flat / Matte

Best for: Ceilings, low-traffic walls, exterior siding on older homes

Pros: Hides imperfections beautifully, creates a soft, modern look

Cons: Less washable than higher-sheen options

We often recommend flat finishes for older wood siding or walls with texture, since the low sheen does a great job of minimizing surface flaws.

Eggshell / Low Sheen

Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and exteriors where a slight sheen is preferred

Pros: A bit more durable than flat, with a soft, elegant glow

Cons: Still not the best for heavy scrubbing

This is one of the most popular sheens for interior spaces—it gives a finished look without being shiny.

Satin

Best for: Kitchens, bathrooms, kids’ rooms, trim, and high-traffic hallways

Pros: Easy to clean, resists moisture and wear

Cons: Slightly highlights imperfections

Satin is a great middle ground when you want durability but don’t want to go full-gloss. For exteriors, satin can be ideal for surfaces like trim and railings where you want a little contrast.

Semi-Gloss

Best for: Doors, cabinets, trim, and furniture

Pros: Highly durable, stands up to moisture and frequent cleaning

Cons: Reflective—so prep work matters!

We especially love semi-gloss for interior and exterior accent doors—a great way to add a pop of personality and curb appeal.

Gloss / High Gloss

Best for: Accent features, furniture, and high-impact details

Pros: Eye-catching, very durable

Cons: Requires a near-perfect surface prep for best results

This is less common for full walls or siding, but when done well, a high-gloss finish can make architectural features really stand out.

What Finish Should You Choose?

Don’t worry—part of our job is helping you figure that out. We’ll walk you through the options based on the condition of your surfaces, how the space is used, and the kind of look you want. And since we use Sherwin-Williams products, we’re working with finishes that are known for their consistency and performance across the board.

Sherwin-Williams Paint and Local Color Trends

In the Pacific Northwest, the natural landscape often inspires the paint colors we choose. These might include deep greens from the forests, soft grays from the coast, and muted blues drawn from our overcast skies and nearby waters.

Nature-Inspired Neutrals

Greens, grays, and browns remain popular choices for exteriors across Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsula, and Port Orchard. Shades like Dried Thyme, Evergreen Fog, or Iron Ore blend beautifully with wooded backdrops and overcast skies, making homes feel rooted in their environment without disappearing completely.

Accent Colors That Pop

While neutral base colors are a favorite, many homeowners opt for bolder trim or door accents to add visual interest. Deep reds, navy blues, and even vibrant yellows can make front doors or shutters stand out—especially on cloudy days when your home could otherwise fade into the background.

A Touch of the Team Spirit

If you’re a sports fan, you're not alone—Seahawks-inspired color schemes featuring deep blues and vivid greens are surprisingly common here. While not every homeowner goes full 12th man, accents in Roycroft Bottle Green or Loyal Blue are subtle nods that still look tasteful and tied to the region.

Blending with Your Garden

If you’ve spent time curating a garden or landscaped yard, paint color can work in tandem with your outdoor design. Cooler house tones like gray-blue or taupe can make warm-toned garden flowers pop, while earthy greens and browns create a seamless flow from foliage to front door.

We’ll walk you through what to consider—whether you're going bold with a statement wall, trying to match your garden colors to your exterior, or looking for something classic that blends seamlessly with the Pacific Northwest’s natural palette. Our team can bring sample colors directly to your home, help you narrow down the options, and recommend the ideal Sherwin-Williams product line and finish for the job—whether that’s a mildew-resistant flat for your shady back porch or a wipeable eggshell for your busy hallway.
